Of Lino Lakes, was called home to our Lord Jesus on November 1, 2025 at the age of 86.
Don was born at home in Carver, MN on December 19th, 1938. In 1956 he graduated high school in Chaska, MN. He went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company in 1956, starting in the commissary and moving up until retiring in 1994 as a Systems Analyst.
He married Mary A. Spear in 1960 and was blessed with four children, making their home in Brooklyn Center and then Brooklyn Park, and retiring at the lake “cabin” in Clearwater.
Don enjoyed his family time with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He loved vacationing with his wife Mary and together, spending winters in Florida and Texas.
Don was preceded in death by son, Kevin Kemkes; parents, Armand and Anna Kemkes; sister, Beverly Padden; and brother, William Schmidt.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Kathryn (William) Heffern, Sandra (Ronald) Hall and Keith Kemkes; his grandchildren, Mitchell (Corina) Pavlik, Michael (Emily) Pavlik, Mikayla (Justin) Sederski, Brittney (Benjamin) Timmerman, Tayler (Mitchell) Mennen, Matthew (Anna) Hall, and Amy (Alan) Larson; and eight great-grandchildren, friends and extended family.
Funeral service 11:00 AM Monday, November 10 at New Life Church – Lutheran, 6000 N. 148th St., Hugo with visitation from 10-11 AM. Interment Morningside Memorial Gardens.
