Donald Kidd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs on Mar. 20, 2025.
Donald Dewayne Kidd, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs, CO, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 28, 1931, Donald dedicated his life to service, first with the U.S. Air Force and later in his community. He will be remembered for his selflessness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to others.
After high school, Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 5, 1950, where he proudly served his country for 30 years until his retirement on January 1, 1980. Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned numerous awards and honors, including the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the USAF NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal with one Silver Loop, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with one Silver and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal. Donald also held the esteemed position of Inspector General and performed mortuary duties with great respect and professionalism.
Following his military retirement, Donald continued to serve his community through a 10-year career with Civil Service as the Commissary Officer. He was an active member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA), where he served as chairman for many volunteer projects. He also dedicated time as the director of the local chapter of the Special Olympics and volunteered with the Air Force Academy Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Track and Field teams. Donald's commitment to helping those in need extended to his work with Christmas Limited, where he helped raise funds for underprivileged individuals and families. His involvement in the Pikes Peak Hiking Club, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, and various local events reflected his dedication to his community and his love for the outdoors.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Kyu Nam Park Kidd, whom he married in Korea on May 15, 1977. He is also survived by his children, Donna L. Matthews (spouse Mike), Donald Kidd Jr. (spouse Cyndi), and his four grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas, Brianna, and Allison. Additionally, he is survived by four great-grandchildren, Alliyah, Joshuua, Olivia Marie, and Emma Grace, as well as one great-great-grandchild, Abagale Michelle. Donald is also survived by his sister, Emma Grace Bence, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was a devout Christian and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private viewing will be held at All Veterans Funeral Home in Colorado Springs on March 28, 2025 at 8 AM, followed by an honors service at Pikes Peak National Cemetery at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Donald's memory.
