Obituary For Dee Atkinson Kidd

Newport News - Dee Atkinson Kidd, born on July 31, 1961, in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 64.

Dee was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her. She dedicated much of her professional life in Program Control within the Instructional Technology field, where her meticulous nature and commitment to excellence was frequently recognized by her company.

A proud alumna of Menchville High School, Dee went on to earn her Sociology Bachelor's Degree with a minor in Criminology from Christopher Newport College. Her education laid the foundation for a career marked by diligence and integrity.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dee's greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and prioritized family gatherings and celebrations, where she loved to cook and was often praised by family and friends. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Dee loved the outdoors, whether it was swimming in the ocean or hiking in the mountains. She loved all wildlife. She loved music. Dee was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders, and enjoyed cheering them on through both victories and defeats (lately, mostly the latter).

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles and Lila (Mitchell) Atkinson, and her eldest sister Donna. Dee leaves behind her devoted husband of 33 years, Vincent Kidd; her cherished children, Kristina, Jessica and Rachael and many grandchildren; also, her loving sisters, Debbie and Dottie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.

There will be a celebration of life held 4pm on Saturday, March 7th at 23227 Spring Crest Drive in Carrollton, Virginia. Simply Cremation is assisting Dee's family during this difficult period.
