Donald J. Kilgus, age 87, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025 in his home.
Donald was born November 28, 1937 in Monroe, he was the son of Walter and Isabell (Herbst) Kilgus. He married Carol M. Zimmerman September 9, 1961 in Swanton, OH; sadly she preceded him in death November 7, 2024.
He had attended Ida Schools and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and Maybee Sportsmen Club.
Donald spent many years working on the family farm. In 1995 when he stopped farming, he began driving truck, working for Rush Trucking and Larry Cardona until his retirement.
Donald and his wife, Carol, enjoyed bowling on leagues, he also liked hunting and trap shooting. He especially enjoyed working on projects around the house with "Grandpa's little helper", Tanner.
He is survived by two children, Jeffrey (Donna) Kilgus of Erie and Donna Jean (Joseph) Golema, Jr. of Wyandotte; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Alan Stevens; sister, Janet Adams; brother-in-law, Ralph Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Luann Smith and niece, Tina Smith.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 12 noon until funeral services begin at 2 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. Rev Greg Sitzman, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

Loved listen to his hunting stories, also all about the cabin in Hillman, loved our visit there. He sure was a loving husband to Carol and loved his family. He will be greatly missed. So sorry for all your loss . Love Barb and Bill Stefko
