Donald Blalock King Sr.

Donald Blalock King, Sr., "Don", passed peacefully on March 29 with family at his side after a short illness. Don was born on February 7, 1948 to Mary Jane and Currie McDonald "Mac" King, Jr. in Randolph County, NC. Don was raised in Asheboro, graduating from Asheboro High School in 1966 and then attended Wingate College from 1966 to 1968.

Don and his wife, Brenda Cross, were married in 1968. They had two beautiful children Tabatha King, and Donald B. King, Jr. "JR". They also have five wonderful grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Don began working for Southern Engineering in 1972 out of Atlanta, then Edgecombe Martin EMC in Tarboro and later working at Wake EMC as director of Operations from 1985 until 2014 when he retired.

Don enjoyed working on projects serving as District Deputy of the 13th district, Grandmaster for the Masonic Lodge, serving as a member of Youngsville Lodge #377, York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies in Raleigh, NC. Don enjoyed working with the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford. He also enjoyed being a part of his Sunday school class at Woodland Baptist Church, served on the personnel committee, and was a member of the USCG auxiliary.

Don loved family, and enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Visits with them were cherished and he loved each memory made.

Don never met a stranger. He was a friend to many and built lifelong friendships. Don loved the Lord, serving at church and built many great friendships within his Sunday school class.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Woodland Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Brenda Cross King; daughter Tabatha Dawn King of Carolina Beach; son Donald Blalock King, Jr. (Amanda King) of Wake Forest; grandchildren Jamie Michelle Coley (Adam), Mackenzie Ryanne King (Dublin), Carlee Louise King, Langley Jane King, Kimball Christine King; great grandchildren Jaxon, Airlie, and Conlon Flynn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Woodland Baptist Church or The Masonic Home for Children At Oxford.
