Donald R. Lampe, age 89, of
Sturgis, Michigan, passed away peacefully Friday, October 31, 2025, at his home.
He was born September 26, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, a son of the late Richard and Ruth (Lilly) Lampe.
Don moved to Sturgis with his family in 1939 and was a proud graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1954. He later continued his education at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, earning an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts.
On September 5, 1958, he married Lois Crowl at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Herbert Heidenreich officiating. They shared over 60 wonderful years together before her passing on March 19, 2019.
Don retired in 1993 from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 39 years of dedicated employment, most recently as a Tool and Die Maker. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Northern Italy where he earned the rank of Sergeant, and later serving 2½ years in the National Guard.
A man devoted to his faith and community, Don was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. He served the City of Sturgis as a Commissioner for seven and a half years, including time as Vice Mayor. He was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 38 years and contributed his time to the Downtown Development Authority. Don and Lois were charter members of the Sturgis Adult Youth Service Organization, the Sturgis Athletic Boosters Club, and the Sturgis Historical Society.
Together, Don and Lois traveled to all fifty states and several countries in Eastern Europe. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, and time spent with family.
He is survived by his daughter, Darcy (Jon) Hill of Columbus, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Herman, Danny (Kayla) Herman, Alexandra (Kyle Staley) Hill, Jacob (Jasmine Reyes) Hill, Benjamin (Stefanie) Munn, and Stefanie Belote; great grandchildren: Baylee Herman, Aidan Herman, Jameson Staley, Austin Belote, Amaya Belote, Abigail Belote, Brock Munn and Anna Munn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Diana Lampe Munn; son, David Lampe and sister, Carolyn Sharp.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, November 6th at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Donald R. Lampe will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday, Nov. 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave. in Sturgis. The Rev. Kaleb Yaeger and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A continued time of fellowship and the sharing of a meal will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow the luncheon at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guards.
