He was born in Rome N.Y. on December 13, 1935 a son of Carl and Grace Wilson Lighthall. He grew up in Rome and was united in marriage with Phyllis Pride on April 16, 1960, a blessed union of nearly 64 years until her passing on February 16, 2024. He was employed with Firestone, Good Year, Square Stamping, and Montgomery Ward. Donald retired from Rocks Tire and Auto, Utica, after many years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and going to McKeever Rats Hunting Camp.
Surviving are his children, Donald Heigl, Forestport, Carl (Earlette) Lighthall Sr., Forestport, Timothy (Phyllis) Lighthall, Remsen, Gracie ( Mike) Tourtelot, Davidson, N.C., Dawn Lighthall, Prospect, Brad (Kim) Lighthall, Floyd, Renee (Bill) Jewett, Remsen, Lance Jansen, Marcy, Patrick Jansen and Pam Delorme, Rome, Robin Lighthall-Yeomans, Rome, Susan Lighthall-Marshall, (Herbert), Rome, Melody Lighthall – Marshall, Rome, Michele Lighthall-Deraway, Rome; many special grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren and many bonus family members.
He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, son Allen Heigl, daughter, Mary Lighthall- Cadrette, daughter, Brenda Lighthall, son Douglas Garner, daughter Dee Dee Bowman, brothers, Richard (Dick) and Ronald (Porkey) and Stan, sisters, Beverly (Bev) Novak and Betty Parker and grandson, Bradley James Lighthall.
Family and Friends may call on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Ackley-Mills Funeral Home, 9597 Main St, Remsen. A burial service will follow at Prospect Cemetery at 1:30 pm. His celebration of life will be at 3 pm at the Remsen VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
