Donald Mack Obituary
Donald Joseph Mack was born July 6, 1939, in Grand Forks to Frank and Marie (Stengl) Mack. He grew up in East Grand Forks and attended school at Sacred Heart. On September 13, 1955, he married Janis Greenwood at Sacred Heart. They made their home in East Grand Forks and were blessed with four children, Kathy, Pam, Donald "Sonny," and Todd.
He was a loving grandpa and he enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren
Don grew up on the family farm and farmed all his life. They ran Tri-Mack Potato which Don eventually took over, running it with his two sons. Don started racing in 1959 and retired from racing in 1980 when his parents passed away. He won multiple races traveling throughout the United States. He won multiple championships throughout his racing career. One of his biggest accomplishments was winning the "Little Indy 500" in Anderson, Indiana. He was inducted into the "Little 500" Hall of Fame in Indiana. Don was also inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, IA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janis Mack of East Grand Forks; children Kathy (Randy) Boman of Alvarado, Pam (Wayne) Stinar of Stinnett, TX, Donald "Sonny" (Jennifer) Mack, of East Grand Forks, and Todd (Melanie) Mack of East Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings David Mack of Minneapolis, MN, Karen Kovar of East Grand Forks, Linus (Kathy) Mack of Bemidji, MN and Jane (Rob) Wagner of East Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Caryl Mack of East Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marie Mack, grandchildren Cory Mack and Jeremy Boman, brother Dennis Mack, brother-in-law Richard Kovar and sister-in-law Cathy Mack.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11:00 AM Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 200 3rd St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on Donnie's page at www.dandahlfuneralhome.com.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral at the Church
INURNMENT: Resurrection Cemetery of East Grand Forks, MN at a later time.

RIP Donald J Mack! We will all miss you. You were a wonderful, fun, loving, fair and kind man! I really got to know you and you always gave everyone a chance. You trusted them and believed in them. I appreciate everything you have helped with and just your friendship was fantastic. And of course, you were Always our favorite on the 1/4 mile GF Speedway, and the fastest! "The Flying Dirt Farmer" will always be remembered. Deepest sympathies and condolences to Janice, Sonny, Todd, Pam, Kathy and the entire family. We miss you all.
