It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Donald "Don" F. Mackey, who departed this world on February 14, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on March 8, 1963, in
Weirton, WV, Don lived a life full of love, generosity, and inspiration.
Don spent several decades working in manufacturing for the Ball Corporation, where he was known not only for his dedication and work ethic but also for his warmth and ability to connect with colleagues. Later in life, after moving to
Little River, SC, in 2018, he embraced new adventures by driving a school bus for Horry County Schools and bringing smiles to his passengers as an Uber driver. His passion for helping others shone through in every role he undertook.
A man of many interests, Don found great joy in spending precious time with his family and sharing stories, wisdom, and laughter with everyone he met. He had a gift for conversation, and those who knew him were often inspired by his kindness and insights. An avid camper, Don cherished his yearly trips to Summerville, WV, in his beloved RV. He also enjoyed working on cars and took immense pride in watching his grandson, Tyler, play baseball.
Before settling in
Little River, SC, Don and his wife, Robin, shared 17 wonderful years in
Reidsville, NC. Throughout his life, his unwavering love and support for his family were evident to all who knew him.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Donald H. and Shirley(Lantz) Mackey; sister, Debra Sue Mackey. He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Robin; daughter Jenna Starvaggi (Paul) of New Cumberland, WV; sons Eric Mackey (Sarah) of
Weirton, WV, Steven Brier (Rona) of Evans, GA, Michael Brier of Lebanon, OH, and Curtis Mace (Beth) of Asheboro, NC. A celebration of Don's remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who were touched by Don's kindness to perform an act of generosity in his memory, continuing the ripple of goodwill that he started.
Don's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy of love, helpfulness, and giving will inspire us always.
