Donald E. Maiolo, born December 30, 1939, to Joseph and Florence Maiolo, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025. Don is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Georgetta Gatto Maiolo and his son, John and Kathy Maiolo, granddaughters, Kelsey and Robert Kaminski and Marissa and Connor Ryan, and 4 great-grandchildren.Don leaves behind brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Joseph and Sandy Maiolo, Georgetta's twin brother and sister-in-law George and Loretta Gatto and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both his parents, brother and sister-in-law John and Gerri Maiolo, nieces and nephew Melissa Betts and Camilla and Rich Heffernan, and brother-in-law Paul Gatto. Don held a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV and taught for 32 years in the Binghamton City School District. Don loved his wife Georgetta, and they shared a musical career together. He was a woodwind artist (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone) and was an original member of Music Unlimited, the Road Manager and Saxophonist for The Sammy Kaye Orchestra. He had many former students that he continued to hear from over the years and he cherished their friendships. Don will be remembered for his dedication to teaching music and performing in many jazz groups in the area. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and looked forward to ushering every Sunday for Mass. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, NY. Family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to service. Interment in Vestal Hills Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to remember Don with a charitable gift can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal, NY 13850.
