Donald Edwin McBrayer, 91, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Donald was born on April 8, 1934, in Worthington, Kentucky to the late Sherman and Mildred (Williams) McBrayer.

He was a member of the Raceland High School class of 1951. He played nearly every sport and excelled at football. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame and was invited by Bear Bryant to play first at the University of Kentucky and then offered a scholarship to play at Alabama.

Although Don retired as a railroad engineer, most of his time was spent traveling, snow skiing, playing tennis, and attending to his businesses. Shangri-La Motel, Raceland Auto Sales, Blue Heron Golf Course, and Poppy Mountain Music Festival.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Dickison, a favorite aunt, Edie Williams Ross, and one son, Jimmy McBrayer.

Don is survived by his children, Jeff, Kathy, Karen, Debbie, and Brenda, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He will be missed by everyone who heard him tell a story or loved to hear him sing "El Paso", "Reindeer Boogie" and "How Great Thou Art".

There will be no services.
