Donald Mesick, 80, of Horsham, PA, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on January 28, 2025. He was the loving and devoted husband of Shirley (Craven) Mesick for over 57 years. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 27, 1944, to the late Harold and Kathryn (Shortall) Mesick, Don began his education at St. David's Elementary School in Willow Grove before graduating from Bishop McDevitt High School, where he forged lifelong friendships that stood the test of time. With a deep sense of duty, he proudly answered the nation's call by enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving with honor and dedication. Following his military service, Don embarked on a remarkable 60-year journey in the auto parts industry, where his professional acumen was matched only by his ability to transform business connections into enduring friendships.
Don was a cherished pillar of the St. Catherine of Siena Church community in Horsham for over 50 years, faithfully serving as Head Usher. A proud member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and Lions Club, he exemplified a life of service and civic dedication. Don's passion for sports went far beyond being a devoted Philly fan -- he shaped young lives as a coach for various youth teams in the Horsham area, even before his own children took the field. In the 1970s, he proudly helped lay the foundation for the Horsham Hawks as one of its first coaches. Later, he capped off his storied 'sports career' as a local scout for the Philadelphia Phillies, where his keen eye for talent kept his love of the game alive. Away from sports, Don found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether casting a line into tranquil waters or attending to his flourishing garden. Above all, he cherished sharing his passions and hobbies with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.
Fate brought Don and Shirley together on a blind date in 1963, an evening that would spark a beautiful love story spanning nearly six decades. What began as a chance encounter blossomed into 57 years of marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and countless shared adventures. Together, they built a loving family with four children and twelve grandchildren, creating a legacy rooted in unwavering affection. Through every chapter of their journey, their bond only deepened, serving as a testament to a love that stood the test of time and grew stronger with each passing year.
Along with his beloved wife, Don is survived by their four children: Audrey Carnevale (Bruce), Craig Mesick (Joyce), Glenn Mesick (Jillian), and Lauren Cheatle (Brian). His love extended beyond his children to their spouses, who he embraced as his own, each becoming a cherished member of the family. It was impossible for him to hide his pride when talking about his children and their spouses. Don's legacy continues through his twelve grandchildren: Julia, Robby, Jack, Tommy, James, Charlotte, and Sara Carnevale; Mackenzie, Riley, and Hannah Mesick; and Brielle Mesick and Max Cheatle, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 321 Witmer Road, Horsham, PA 19044. A visitation will be held prior from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the Church. Interment will be held at a later date.
