Donald P. Mitas Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly in Petoskey on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Age 83 years. The son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Roka) Mitas, Don was born on October 20, 1941 in Burt, Michigan. Don married Susana "Sue" Benson on August 29, 1964. She survives him. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963. Don served as a Lieutenant for the Buena Vista Fire Department for 7 years. In 1980, Don went to work as a tow truck operator for 44 years retiring in 2024. He loved working outside and enjoyed watching hockey, basketball and football. Don and Sue were longtime members of the former St. George Catholic Church.
Surviving besides his wife Sue are three children, Lecia Mitas, Nevada, Texas; Brad (Rochelle) Mitas, Petoskey; Marcia Mitas, Long Island, New York; five grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Madison, Sam and Emma; his brother, Joseph (Rosalie) Mitas.
Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Fr. John Sarge will officiate. Honoring Don's wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw City Rescue Mission.
