Donald Jay Moist, 88, of Ryde, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home.
Born April 7, 1936 in Ryde, he was a son of the late Robert and Winifred (Moist) Miller.
His wife, Doris M. (Spickler) Moist, whom he married Feb. 10, 1955, preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2000.
Surviving are: a daughter, Judy Ann Bingaman and husband Richard of Lewistown; a son, Gerald E. Moist and wife Jo Ann of Ryde; a brother, Richard Miller and wife Jeanette of Mattawana; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
Early in life he worked at Krentzman's and the American Viscose Corp., both of Lewistown. Later he was self-employed as a home builder and remodeler.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1954 to 1957 in Europe.
He was a member of the Ryde United Methodist Church.
He loved his Pittsburgh Pirates, and in his younger years played for the Ryde baseball team in the Twilight League.
Jay was an avid woodworker, hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He enjoyed meeting his friends for breakfast at the Kountry Kitchen, and most of all loved time spent with his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Faith Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Ryde Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ryde United Methodist Church, 80 Ryde Rd., McVeytown, PA 17051.
