Donald Neff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home on Feb. 27, 2026.
Donald F. Neff, 83, of Vernon, beloved husband of 57 years to Linda (Augustine) Neff, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 27, 1942, in New Haven, he was one of two children of the late Harry Neff, Sr. and Marion (Zoller) Neff.

In addition to his devoted wife Linda, Don is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Neff of Vernon; his son, Steven Neff and his wife Amy of Golden, Colorado; and his cherished grandson, Hunter Neff of Vernon. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother and sister-in-law, Harry Neff, Jr. and Jill Neff.

Don was raised in East Haven graduating from East Haven High School, Class of 1960. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country from June 1960 to March 1964. His love of country and deep respect for the military remained with him throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Don furthered his education at the Connecticut School of Electronics for two years. He later began working at EFI in North Haven, where he met his future wife, Linda. They were married on September 28, 1968. In 1972, they moved to Vernon and raised their family.

Don spent 23 years working as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician for Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET). Following his time there, he pursued other business ventures, including earning his commercial truck driving license. One of his proudest accomplishments was building his own landscaping business from the ground up. He took great pride in his work and found fulfillment in helping others.

Athletics were an important part of Don's life. In high school, he played baseball and was captain of the swim team. His passion for swimming continued as he worked as a lifeguard along the shores of East Haven and later provided swimming lessons while serving in the military.

Above all, Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and ability to fix just about anything around the house. He coached Little League and youth soccer and was his children's biggest supporter at sporting events. His love of swimming was passed down to his children and now to his grandson, continuing a proud family tradition.

Don treasured time spent camping, kayaking, and vacationing with his family. As a grandfather, he especially cherished the moments shared with Hunter. He also had a special love for animals, particularly his late dog, Tucker.

At the request of his family, funeral services will be held privately. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Valley Falls Cemetery, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Donald F. Neff to the Dementia Society of America (www.DementiaSociety.org/donate) or to the American Humane Society (www.americanhumane.org).
