Donald Roger Niceley, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and respected member of the Erlanger community, passed away peacefully in his home on December 9, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on November 12, 1935, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Donald was known for his love of people and storytelling. He could talk for hours with anyone and made a lasting impression on those he met. He had a unique ability to engage with people, and was known for his long goodbyes.
Don dedicated 37 years of his professional life to CG&E/Duke Energy, a career he retired from in 1990. His commitment to his work reflected his strong work ethic, which he carried throughout all aspects of his life. He was later a founding owner of Niceley's Appliance Repair. He served two terms on the Erlanger City Council during his 80s. He was a humble man who loved his family and was strong in his Christian faith. He attended Villa Madonna, now known as Thomas More University.
Among his many interests, Donald had a deep love for antiques, particularly classic cars. He enjoyed going on car rides that allowed him to relive fond memories and appreciate the journeys of life. His green thumb flourished in his garden, and he enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature and fishing.
Don's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving daughter, Diana Niceley, and sons, Steve Niceley and Jeff (Karen) Niceley. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Bryan (Heather) Botts and Austin Vonderahe, and his great-granddaughter, Addison Botts. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law, Anne Niceley and Carole Niceley, special friend, Marilyn Bingham, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Niceley (nee Meece), as well as brothers and sisters Lawrence Niceley, Lowell Niceley, Ted Niceley, Eulala Niceley Bass, Flonnie Niceley Kirby, Flloyd Niceley, Myrtle Niceley Inabnitt, LLoyd Niceley, Walter Niceley, James Niceley and Etta Niceley.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on December 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a service to follow at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, located at 4350 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, KY. Don was a no frills guy and would want everyone to attend his funeral as they are, casual dress is encouraged.
Don will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky during a private committal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's name are recommended to Shriner's Hospital of Dayton and the Children's Home of Northern Kentucky.
Don’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his stories will continue to bring smiles and laughter for generations to come.
