Donald A. O'Blenis, 76, of South Bend passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home on Monday November 17, 2025.

Don was born on April 4, 1949, in South Bend to the late Harold O'Blenis and Amy (Rupel) Shunk. Growing up on a turkey farm, Don learned the value of hard work and the importance of family, two qualities that carried with him throughout his life.

Don joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country.

Don then became a member of the roofers union, local 23, a lifelong journey he used to travel the country and serve his union members as an agent and international representative.

In 1979 he married Janet Fogarty and the two shared 40 years together before her passing in 2019.

Don loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed his country living and he was loving and caring in all the times that it was important. He lived his life to the fullest with no regrets and passed along the strong traits to his loved ones through his devotion and love.

Don will be sorely missed by his daughters, Kelly (Brad) Chamness and Kim Lambert, his 3 grandchildren; Justin (Taylor), Janiece (Luke), and Garrett, as well as his great grandchildren; Baize and Kaedence. His siblings also survive; Missy (Jim) Meerte, Arnie (Jackie) O'Blenis, and Bill (Nancy) O'Blenis. Many other close friends and relatives also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Janet.

A visitation for Don will be held from 10am-12pm on Friday November 21, 2025, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Sumption Prairie in South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Don's name may be made to Rebuilding Together-South Bend chapter or to the Center for Hospice.

Online condolences to the family may be sent via the Palmer Funeral homes website at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com

Don, you will be missed. From the day I moved in to the neighborhood I'm so glad I got to meet you, times in the barn, football games and a beer or two, just having a good time. Say hay to lee for me, rest in peace neighbor
