Donald Palmer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 6, 2025.
Donald Palmer, a symbol of strength, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit, passed away on August 25, 2025, just shy of his 70th birthday. Born in Columbus, OH, on August 31, 1955, to Robert Palmer and Dorothy Sanders, Donald spent his formative years in Ohio, graduating from Gahanna Lincoln High School and attended THE Ohio State University before finding his home in Flagstaff where he met his wife, Syliva. Both of them ultimately found their way to Truxton, Arizona working with the Hualapai Community. Donald, an avid Buckeye fan, found his love and happiness in Arizona.

Donald spent his career in various occupations. He started his career as a chef in Flagstaff, but for his love of the outdoors he found his way to working as a Grand Canyon trail guide, working for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, finally, on the open road, driving trucks for Swift Transportation. His life was a journey, much like the endless highways he traversed, filled with stories of places seen, people met, and experiences gathered. His stories were a testament to his adventurous spirit, his love for the road, and his commitment to his work. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words carried the weight of wisdom and the warmth of his heart.

Donald was widowed, and a steadfast pillar of support for his brothers, William (Jeanne), Andrew (Kaylin), Sister-in-Law Zeny Palmer, along with many other family members and friends that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia, his parents Robert and Dorothy, and brother Ted. Donald lived a life that was uniquely his own, filled with the joys of exploration, the satisfaction of hard work, and the love of family.

As we mourn the loss of Donald Palmer, we also celebrate his life and his enduring spirit. His journey may have reached its destination, but his story continues in those who remember him. We encourage you to share your memories of Donald and upload photos to his memorial page, so that his legacy may continue to inspire and touch the hearts of all who knew him.
