Virginia Griffith Obituary

Virginia Andrews Griffith (Ginny) passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, at her home in Miami Shores, Florida, at the age of 98. The daughter of Frank & Ethel Andrews, her long, well-lived, life began in Toledo, Ohio where she graduated from DeVilbiss High School. While living on Gunkel Blvd, she would run out front every afternoon, telling her mother she wanted to rake leaves, but really it was to watch the boy from down the street drive by in his convertible on his way to work. That boy, Victor, would in 1949, become her husband of 61 years. She initially attended the Ohio State University before transferring to the University of Toledo, where Victor also attended after the war. Ginny graduated with a degree in education and began her teaching career in Maumee, Ohio. After their first child, Jim, was born, they moved to Florida settling on 88th Ter in a new subdivision in El Portal. Ginny became a full time mom, raising her now four sons, Jim, Dave, Tom & Bill. They joined Miami Shores Presbyterian Church in 1958, and Miami Shores Country Club the same year. Her & Victor had many positions at the church, and Ginny volunteered at North Shore Hospital. She also served many positions with the MSCC Women's Golf Association, including President, and helped establish the junior golf program at the Club. An avid golfer, Ginny enjoyed her Thursday mornings playing with the ladies' group, and Sundays with Vic and friends. She spent countless hours with her children 's activities, beginning at Barry Field and the Miami Shores Community Center, as well as introducing them to golf, and being a piano player, music, her son David becoming an accomplished drummer. She became a substitute teacher at Horace Mann Junior High School and after her youngest, Tom & Bill, went off to college, Ginny & Vic moved to Miami Shores. They enjoyed many years of travel, including cruises, drives across the country visiting grand kids, and Vic's army reunions retracing his platoon's route through Europe. Ginny loved watching sports, as a fan of the Buckeyes, Toledo Rockets, Marlins, Dolphins, Seminoles & Gators, as well as golf. She enjoyed the church, the club, holidays, having company, family and friends. Her beloved Victor passed away in 2010, and second son David in 2021. She leaves behind her three sons, Jim (Kim), Tom & Bill (Mary), nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Mom will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Ginny will be interred in a columbarium. alongside the boy from down the street, Victor, in the South Florida National Cemetery in Boynton Beach following A Service Of Committal on 09/11/2025 at 2:30 p.m.
