Donald "Don" Pomeroy, 86, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Pine View Nursing Center, Black River Falls, WI.
Don was born on June 18, 1938, to Raymond "Bud" and Winifred (Hoddel) Pomeroy in Black River Falls. He grew up playing football in high school wearing a leather helmet. He graduated with the Class of 1955 from Black River Falls High School. He entered the U.S. Navy right after high school and attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Academy. He served in the Quadulant Islands and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked at Bud's Mobile Station before going to work for the DNR in Fish Management. He owned a Mobile for several years and delivered fuel oil, before he started with the City of Black River Falls in Water Waste Management. He retired in 2000.
He was united in marriage to Sue Linnell in Wittenberg, she later passed away in 1995. He later married Judy Larson in 1999 in Cashton, WI. Don and Judy enjoyed traveling, camping, and going to Packer games. They spent a few years wintering in Alabama and traveled to Mexico.
He was with the Black River Falls Fire Department for 25 years, as well as a member of the Jaycee's, Masons, and Lion's Club. All his grandchildren and their friends called him "Goofy Grandpa" for all the crazy antics that he would do.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sue; mother, Winifred; parents, Raymond "Bud" and Jean; brother, Scott Pomeroy, brother-in-law, Tom Luke and in-laws, Elton and Phyllis Larson.
Don's memory will be held in the hearts of his wife, Judy; daughters, Linda (Andrew Biwer) Pomeroy and Sara Pomeroy; grandchildren, Brittany (Ryan) Wang, Bretta (Cole) Sanders, and Alexander (Salem) Bieri; great-grandchildren, Kobe, Ciena, Ariah, Lauren and Sven, sister, JoAnn Luke, sister-in-law Debra Pomeroy, along with a multitude of friends and family.
The celebration of life open house will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Torgerson's Funeral Home in Black River Falls. A sharing of memories and military honors will be at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Black River Falls Fire Department or St. Croix Hospice of Black River Falls.
