Donald Zade Rice, 89, beloved and respected member of the community, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, with his family by his side. Born on March 20, 1934, in Madison County. He was the son of the late Zade and Texa Hunter Rice.
Don Rice lived a remarkable life filled with dedication and love.
Don devoted his professional career to Enka, where he retired after an impressive 41 years. He approached his work with unwavering commitment and became a respected figure amongst colleagues. Don's dedication and strong work ethic were qualities that inspired those around him. Beyond his career accomplishments, Don had a profound passion for farming. Working the land brought him immense joy and fulfillment. His love for farming was evident to all who knew him. In addition to his love for farming, Don cherished spending time with his family and friends. He greatly valued the bonds he built throughout his life and took pleasure in creating lasting memories with his loved ones. His warm heart and kind spirit were always present in his interactions with others.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joann P. Rice, who died in 2020, leaving behind cherished memories. He was also predeceased by his sister Norma Rice and brother Morris Rice. Their presence will forever be missed but cherished in the hearts of those who knew them.
Don is survived by a loving family who will carry on his legacy of kindness and warmth. His two sons, Donald Howell Rice (Terry) of Candler and David Hunter Rice (Tessa) of Canton were blessed to have him as their supportive father throughout their lives; and a sister, Brenda Ammons of Mars Hill.
The impact that Don had on future generations can be seen through the love he shared with his grandchildren: Beauford Rice (Jennifer) and Kaleb Rice (Brittney). Donald's three great-grandchildren, Zade, Hunter, and Macrae Rice, were a source of immense joy and pride for him.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at High Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Beauford Rice and the Reverend Christopher Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.
Donald Zade Rice was an exceptional individual who touched the lives of many through his kindness, dedication, and zest for life. As we mourn the loss of this remarkable soul, let us also celebrate the profound impact he had on all those fortunate enough to know him.
