LISBON - Donald R. Saltsman, a kind-hearted and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Born on July 21, 1950, in Salem, he was the cherished son of the late William Saltsman and Celia (Blackburn) Brown.
Donald dedicated over 30 years of his life working at GM Lordstown, where he took pride in his role as an assemblyman in the car plant. His commitment to excellence was evident in every task he undertook. Donald will be remembered for his love of cars, a passion that led him to become an active member of the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club. His expertise and enthusiasm for car maintenance and repair were not just hobbies but ways in which he connected with and supported his community.
Known for his generous spirit, Donald was the kind of person who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His presence was a source of strength and reliability for his friends, family, and colleagues.
Donald's life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 54 years, Linda (Meier) Saltsman, whom he married on August 1, 1970. His legacy continues through his daughter, Julie (Kevin) Dowdy, and his adored grandchildren, Christian and Abriell Dowdy. Donald was also a dear brother to his siblings, Donna Martin, Melissa Orr, Brian (Karen) Brown, and Bruce (Kelcey) Brown, and a stepbrother to Minnie Adkins, Robert (Bonnie) Wilson, and Richard (Linda) Wilson.
His family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Donald's life on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Stark Memorial.
A funeral service, led by Pastor Kirk Martin, will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Donald will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery, where his memory will be cherished forever.
