Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Homes & Crematory - Milton Chapel on Jun. 24, 2023.
Donald (Don) Schutt, 92, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2023. A longtime resident of Pompano Beach, FL, he had moved to Pensacola in recent years to be close to Jeffery and Karen Schutt.
A native of
Marine City, Michigan, Don served in the U.S. Reserves during the 1950s. He moved to Pompano Beach in the late 1950s with his wife, Ann, and son, Jeff. Don made the move after being offered a position as a draftsman at Chris-Craft's new Pompano facility, eventually becoming the Director of Engineering Naval Architect. His other two surviving sons, Brian and Steve, were born in South Florida and grew up in the family's Pompano Beach home. Having had no daughters of his own, he cherished the relationships he eventually formed with his daughter-in-laws, Karen and Cindy.
Don was devout Christian and an active member in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, where he taught adult Bible studies and was fixture in the choir, often performing solos at special times of the year. Throughout his life he lived out his faith by volunteering for various charitable organizations - selflessly serving those who struggled with illness, were homeless or faced extreme poverty. He and Ann brought up their boys in the church and taught them sound Christian values which continue to serve as the foundation of their lives.
Don also was blessed with considerable artistic talent. He was adept at drawing and painting - talents passed down to his children and grandchildren. He possessed a strong work ethic and was a man of great dignity and integrity.
Don is predeceased by his wife, Ann Kammer Schutt and second wife, Kathi Noonan Schutt.
He was deeply loved by his sons and their wives, who remained in close contact with him throughout his final illnesses and will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Charles, Kevin, Allison and Daniel and great grandchildren, Felicity, Harrison and Winona.
Those who knew Don will remember him for his exceedingly kind heart, quiet strength, sense of humor and dedication to his family. Rest in peace, dear father, grandfather and great grandfather. While we take solace in the fact that you are experiencing joy in God's warm embrace, know that you will be missed and always remembered!
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday July 15, 2023, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel, 4777 West Spencer Field Road, Pace, Florida 32571, with visitation from 10:00-11:00am with service at 11:00am.
