Donald Shepler Obituary

Donald A. Shepler, 83, of Big Run passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on September 30, 1942, in Henderson Township, he was the son of Martha (Deemer) and Isaac Shepler. Don graduated from Sykesville Henderson High School in 1960. Known for his steady nature and commitment to service, he was a lifetime member of the Big Run Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Home Camp United Methodist Church.

Don spent his career as a hardworking and respected truck driver. Throughout his career he was a dedicated employee of Loree Footwear in Big Run, DuBrook, and Robert Cole Trucking. He retired in July of 2008 after 20-plus years of service with P & N Coal Company of Punxsutawney. His colleagues knew him as dependable, honest, and always willing to lend a hand.

On July 27, 1963, Don married his wife, Joan, beginning a marriage of 62 years built on loyalty, partnership, and deep affection. Outside of work, Don found joy in the simple things - time with family, good conversation, and crafting with his hands. An avid woodworker, he poured countless hours into creating beautiful, handmade pieces. He loved giving these creations to his family and friends, each one a reflection of his patience, skill, and generous spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Big Run; two daughters, Karen (Blair Jr.) Michael of Rockton and Jennifer (Duce) Bowser of Arcadia, Florida; two grandchildren, Jacquelynne (Dan) Simcisko of Treasure Lake and Alexander (Krista) Michael of Rockton; and one great-grandson, Owen Michael, also of Rockton. He is also survived by his twin sister Donna Durnell of Reynoldsville; sister Marie Minich of Fairmont City; brother-in-law Daniel (Shari) Fleming of Treasure Lake; brother-in-law Jack (Claudia) Williams of Columbus, Ohio; and sister-in-law Jolene Fleming of Rossiter. Don is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marlene Shepler.

Following Don's wishes, no public visitation will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Home Camp United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ann Dixon officiating, fellowship dinner to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Run Volunteer Fire Department, honoring Don's lifelong commitment to his community.

Interment will take place in Rockton Cemetery.

Adamson Funeral Chapel & Crematorium of DuBois is entrusted with the arrangements.
