Donald Earl Simpson, 75, of Flemingsburg, passed away Friday, February 21, 2026, at Homestead Nursing Home in Lexington, Kentucky
Born in Fleming County on April 6, 1950, Donald was the son of the late Sherrill Simpson and Naomi England Turner.
Donnie proudly served his country in the Army from 1968-1969 where he earned his Purple Heart and developed his love for his country and freedom. Donald was a member of many veteran programs such as the Wounded Warriors and was an advocate for soldiers with PTSD. He was also a Respiratory Therapist. Donald was a loving father, coach, and friend to many. Donald never met a stranger and always encouraged everyone. Donald coached many children in Fleming County through football and baseball. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.
Donnie is survived his 3 sons; Derrick Walter Simpson of Brooksville; Casey (Olivia Schaefer) Simpson of Highland Heights; Zachary and wife Natalie Simpson of Flemingsburg; his grandchildren; Ashton Lee Beckett, Kendall Grace Hawkins, Elijah Joseph Patrick, Serenity Renee Simpson, Savannah Simpson, Alexis(Connor) Dunn, Brooklyn Simpson, Joseph Simpson, and Evelyn Simpson; and his two great-grandchildren; Violet Dunn and Joshua Dunn.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his sister; Shirley Clark.
Celebration of Life will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Boone- Nickell Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Joseph officiating.
Visitation will be 12 p.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Boone-Nickell, located at 150 West Water Street in Flemingsburg
