Donald Spillars Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 9, 2022.
Sunrise 2-10-39 ~ Sunset 8-6-22, Don took his final Flight on Heaven Bound Flight 535 (5:35 P.M.) August 6, 2022. Don was born in Asheville, N.C. to Vernon Spillars and Aveline Wright Spillars. He shared his life with his wife of 62 yrs. Millicent Carver Spillars marrying on July 22, l960. From this marriage they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Melanie Michele (Spillars) Gore which was the love of their life. Melanie married our wonderful son-in-love Gary Ray Gore who is a protector and provider of their family never a worry of her care and Cadens. Maybe that is the reason Don ask everyday was Gary working, or was he there with them. From this blissful marriage they shared their first and one and only grandchild Caden Andrew Gore. Did he ever go without anything that his Papa and WaWa could not give him? No are you surprised!!! Caden has been the JOY in their family for 28 yrs. Don has a sister Doris S. Spires living in Anderson, S.C. and two nieces. Predeceasing in death were his parents.
Millicent wants to share a reading titled "TRAIN OF LIFE." At Birth we boarded the Train of Life and met our parents, and we believed they would always travel on by our side however, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. As time goes by, other people will board the train, and they will be significant, our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of our life. Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of JOY, SORROW, FANTASY, expectations, hellos, goodbyes and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves. The Mystery in life to everyone is this: We do not know at which Station we ourselves will step down from our Train of Life. So, we must live in the best way we know how, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the Train of Life. I wish you a joyful journey on your Train of Life Reaping success and giving lots of love. Most importantly thanking God for the journey. Lastly, I thank you as Don's wife and his family for being one of the passengers on Don's Train of Life. Don's love of gardening was shown by his generosity of giving. He was known for his string beans, tomatoes, and bread and butter pickles he graciously provided to friends and family. His love of canning the produce he grew was his way of preserving the treasures he was able to provide.
Those who knew Don knew he didn't like being fussed over or the center of attention he would rather give than receive. In honor of Don's character, we ask that all who wish to participate make a donation to: https://www.facebook.com/donate/550629379850573/ in honor of Don. We ask for this in lieu of having any funeral or memorial services at this time as we take this time to regain our physical strength and mourn privately.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hgriversidefuneralhome.com for the Spillars family.
