Donald T. Stansky, 93, of Superior, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior.
Donald was born in Superior on May 28, 1930, the son of Dorothy (Zachau) and Alfred Stansky.
On February 19, 1966, in Duluth, MN, Donald Stansky and Myrna Mikelson were united in marriage.
Don started working at an early age. At 12 years old he was employed delivering groceries for a local grocery store. After high school he became a sailor on the Great Lakes. Then he enlisted with the U.S. Navy, completing two tours in Korea before his honorable discharge. Following his years with the Navy he worked in Civil Service for the U.S. Air Force at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force base in Michigan, as a Jet Engine Shop Supervisor, retiring in 1985. Retiring did not mean he quit working. His next career was owning his own semi and driving cross country for several trucking companies. He drove over one million miles before retiring at age 81. He also spent many years as a part-time bartender.
Don was a master mechanic, building and repairing just about anything. He loved building model ships from scratch, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, gardening and reading. While in Michigan, he was a member and officer of motorcycle clubs and snowmobile clubs. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bob and Dick.
Don is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Myrna; sons, Rick (Shelly) Stansky of Superior, Mike Stansky of Gwinn, Michigan, Lance (Vickie) Stansky of Tigerton, Wisconsin, and Thomas (Bambi) Stansky; daughters, Jenny (Steve) Stansky of Superior, and Debbie (Curt) Marsh of Appleton, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; several great -grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Hanlon of Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law, Linda Stansky; of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435. Gary Banker will officiate.
