Donald Gene Stoll, 76, of Altoona, Iowa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 8, 2025. Donald accepted Jesus into his heart as a teenager. He loved his Savior and it was evident in his life, love, and service to others. Don loved and cared for many and could always be counted on to help anyone in need. Donald was a member of Park Church in Des Moines.
Donald was born on March 18, 1949, to Carol Hoskins and Hazel Smith in Ankeny, Iowa. Donald was the sixth of eight children. Through life circumstances, he was later adopted by Lee and LaVerne Stoll and gained two more siblings, Daniel and Jacquelyn. Don was a graduate of Ankeny High School and Iowa State University. He lived in the greater Des Moines area most of his life. Donald married the love of his life, Rebecca Hindal, in 1970, and they had three children.
Throughout his life, Donald worked and excelled in various fields. He worked on the family farm and was in feed sales before entering the real estate profession for 25 years. Before retiring, Don worked as an insurance agent and a school administrator. He and Becky enjoyed working together on real estate projects that kept them busy into retirement.
Donald's favorite pastime was cheering on and supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their various activities and sports. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend a game, program, or competition. He was the biggest fan! Donald is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children, Lisa (Eric) Crawford, Lynnette (Geoffrey) Lane, Geoffrey (Jenna) Stoll; grandchildren, Grant (Carleigh) Crawford, Claire (Jake) Peevy, Natalee Lane, Sydney Lane, Jessy Lane, Henry Lane, Joshua Crawford, Ella Stoll, Olivia Stoll; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Crawford and Lucy Peevy to be joined by two more in the spring; brothers Ken Hoskins, Daniel (Phyllis) Stoll, sister Irene McEachern; many nieces and nephews.
Don is also survived by his in-laws, Archie and Betty Hindal, Chris and Deb Hindal, Chuck and Linda Pausley, Susan Lynch, Rob and Kim Seyler and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and they loved him as their own. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hazel (Smitty) Smith, Carol Hoskins, Lee Henry (Donna) Stoll, LaVerne (James) Manning; brothers, Eddie Hoskins, Johnny Hoskins; sisters, Velma (Bob) Crosser, Colene Galloner, Jacquelyn (Donald) Griggs and an infant sister.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6 Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand View Christian School or Park Church.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm, Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Park Church, 1701 E. 33rd Street, Des Moines, IA. The funeral service will follow beginning at 4pm at Park Church.
