Donald Thomas Patrick Mahon, age 89, of Boynton Beach, FL passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025 after an illness. His bright smile, generous heart, and ever present sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Don married his favorite girl, Pat in 1969 and they shared over 55 happy years together. Their three children, Sheila, Joey and Timmy knew how lucky they were to grow up in a happy home surrounded by love and laughter. Their grandchildren Maggie, Winter, Katie, Kier, Mabel and Griffin added more joy to his life.
Don was a Navy veteran and a Mobil retiree. He was an avid athlete, running 17 marathons, including Boston, as well as countless shorter races. He swam at least a mile a day into his early 80s and then slowed down and walked and played pickleball most days.
Throughout his life, Don helped others whenever he could. From his naval service and working with Marriage Encounter in his younger years to giving rides with Fish in Wilton, CT and helping to build an robust social network and activities calendar in the Limetree Retirement Community in Boynton Beach, FL where he and Pat have lived for the past 13 years. In addition, he found countless small ways to help his family and friends, and even friends of friends whenever he could.
Don was known as someone who could be counted on to respond with love. Whether you needed a ride to the airport (or anywhere else), a quick laugh, a hug, an ear when you needed to talk, or someone to jump in and sing while wearing a dress to make an event a little more fun, he was your guy. He lived his life with joy and it showed.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, his children Sheila Shelton (and Stagg) and Tim Mahon (and Kerry McGovern) as well as his grandchildren Maggie, Winter, Keir, Mabel and Griffin.
Don joins his parents, brothers, granddaughter Katie and son Joey in the next life.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 17 at 10am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (10935 S Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL 33436), followed by a celebration of life at the Limetree Activities Center (10128 S 43rd Dr, Boynton Beach, FL 33436).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to the Sisters of the Presentation (https://www.sistersofthepresentation.org/ways-to-give) or KatKits.org
