Donald Eugene Townley, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Don was a proud Army veteran who served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other medals for his bravery and dedication.

Following his military service, Don built a long and successful career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked diligently until his retirement. A graduate of Princeton High School in West Virginia, Don carried with him a lifelong sense of pride in his roots and a steadfast work ethic.

Don loved the simple joys of life - spending peaceful days by the lake, feeling the ocean breeze on the beaches of Florida, and cherishing every moment with his beloved wife and family. His greatest joy came from those he loved most.

A man of deep faith, Don gave his life to Christ and lived as a devoted Christian, finding strength and comfort in his relationship with the Lord. His kindness, integrity, and unwavering faith touched all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janet Townley; his children, Matthew Townley and wife Kimberly Townley, Tracy Overstreet, Mark Townley, Brian Minter and wife Kelly Minter, Brad Minter, and Julie Saunders; his brother, William "Ron" Townley and wife Carol Townley; and his sister, Lois Harman. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise French Townley and Edwin Earl Townley.

Funeral services will be held at Life Tabernacle Church, 801 E. Virginia Avenue, Vinton, VA 24179, on November 1, 2025. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the American Legion or the Wounded Warrior Project, in honor of Don's service and dedication to his fellow veterans.

Donald Eugene Townley will be remembered for his courage, devotion, and the love he shared so freely. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
