John ("Jack") Townley, 79, of South Dartmouth, MA passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on September 3, 1945, in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Townley.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine (Hunt) Townley; his daughter, Martha, and her husband, Erik Bond; his son, Timothy, and his wife, Lisa (Luke); and his sister, Anne, and her husband, Edward Verissimo. He also leaves four grandchildren-Rose and Edward Bond, and Natalie and Nathan Townley-along with his lifelong friend, Mark Southworth, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jack devoted his professional life to helping others as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and a conciliator at the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents.
A proud graduate of Holy Family High School where he played basketball, Jack later attended Stonehill College and Rhode Island College. He had a lifelong passion for reading, cheering for the Boston Celtics, Red Sox, and Notre Dame football, enjoying movies and British television, and traveling to New York City. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to Rosie's Place in Boston or the Friends of Dartmouth Library in Dartmouth, MA. Services and burial will be private.
