Funeral services for Mr. Donald Ernest Weinell, 91, of Shreveport, Louisiana will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath.
Donald Weinell was born June 24, 1933, at the family homestead in rural Box Butte County, Nebraska and passed away on July 3, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Mr. Weinell was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1952 until 1973. He was a mechanic and flew as a crewman on the C-124 aircraft. Upon his retirement from the USAF, he worked as an appliance repairman until 1993. Donald could not stay retired and returned to work part-time with Pierremont Exxon “to keep himself busy.”
In his younger years Donald enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with his family. In his last few years he enjoyed spending time with his dog, dining out, and watching reruns of his favorite television shows.
Mr. Weinell is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Coburn Weinell; parents, Ernest and Elsie Weinell; sisters, Florence Sydow and Dot Rose; and his grandson, William Weinell.
Survivors include his sons, Don Weinell and wife Kate and David Weinell and wife Lisa; daughters, Donna McGee and husband Jeff and Diana Weinell; grandchildren, Jeff Weinell, John Weinell, Sebastian Pagni-Weinell, Morgan McGee, and Timothy Russell; great-granddaughter, Indi McGee; sister, Bonnie Duncan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jack.
Honoring Mr. Weinell as pallbearers will be Jeff Weinell, John Weinell, Sebastian Pagni-Weinell, Timothy Russell, and Raymond Pagni-Weinell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Landmark Nursing and Rehab in West Monroe, Louisiana for helping to care for Mr. Donald Weinell over the last few months.
