Donat "Don" Vincent Dion of Grand Island, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Coventry, Rhode Island, Don answered his country's call by proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he spent three decades behind the wheel as a dedicated truck driver, traversing highways and building lifelong friendships along the way. At 37, Don began a profound journey of faith, immersing himself in biblical studies that would shape the rest of his life. He earned his PhD in Bible Theology. In 1996, he relocated from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Grand Island, Florida. He devoted ten years to ministry at Liberty Baptist Church before serving as Associate Pastor and Bible study teacher at Midway Baptist Church. Most recently, he enriched the community of First Baptist Church-Altoona through his thoughtful Bible study sessions. Outside of ministry, Don found joy on the water. Lake Yale was his favorite fishing spot, where he spent countless mornings sharing stories and casting lines with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Yvonne Dion. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Louise; son, Michael D. Dion of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; as well as two grandchildren, Ayle Dion of Connecticut and Bonner Dion of South Carolina. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, August 19, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon at Altoona Baptist Church. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by burial at Lakeside Memory Gardens. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
