Donna Bartel, 81, of
Buhler, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 5, 2025 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born November 20, 1943 in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Doris "Dori" and June (Hanson) Young.
She grew up and attended school in McPherson, graduating from McPherson High School with the Class of 1961. Donna worked at Duckwall for many years, while in high school, and also the drive-in movie theater.
Donna was united in marriage to LeWayne Bartel on January 25, 1964 at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson. LeWayne and Donna first lived in McPherson, then moved to Laport, Indiana where they worked in 1-W Service. They settled in the Buhler area in 1968, where they opened Bartel Cabinet Shop in 1974. Donna later opened the Village Marketplace and Rustic Edge in 1999, where she worked many years until her retirement in 2013.
Donna was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Church and loved working with Sunday School, Bible School, the youth group and particularly, the Christmas Eve program. She had a great passion for her grandchildren and enjoyed doing diamond art.
Donna is survived by her husband, LeWayne; three children, Michelle (Duane) Brunk of Buhler, Stephanie (Steve) Miller of Hutchinson, and Chris (Shelly) Bartel of Buhler; twelve grandchildren, Joely (Kirk) Kelly, Bailey Bartel, Garrett (Lindsey Avery) Bartel, Brayden Brunk, Brielyn (Aidan) Fields, Bransten Brunk, Ellie (Ian) Bartlett, Will Miller, Max Miller, Reggie Miller, Annabelle Miller, and Norah Miller; three great-grandchildren; Kolly & Kenzi Kelly and Everett Bartel; two sisters, Brenda (Keith) Banman of McPherson, and Jerilyn Nickel of Marquette, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cheri Koehn, Connie Stonebraker and Sharon Rose and her husband Glen; one brother, Roger Young; and a granddaughter, Christiana Miller.
Graveside services will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Hebron Cemetery, rural Buhler. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Buhler Mennonite Church. The service will be livestreamed on the Buhler Mennonite Church YouTube channel. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9th at Buhler Mortuary, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to MCC in care of Buhler Mortuary, P.O.
