Donna Sue Bolthouse
September 1, 1942 - December 20, 2025
Donna Sue Bolthouse, age 83, of
Holland, Michigan, passed peacefully into glory with her Lord and Savior, on December 20, 2025. Despite an eight-year battle with Parkinson's disease, Donna remained positive and steadfast, never allowing the illness to define her life. Her faith, strength, and grace were evident to all who knew her.
She was born in
Belding, MI on September 1, 1942 to Dr. Arthur Green and Sue Cate Green. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Daniel Green, and beloved husband of 36 years, James H. Bolthouse, who passed away of cancer in 1998.
Donna is survived by her husband, Dennis P. Kaleugher; her son Scott (Gwen) Bolthouse of Holland; daughters Julie (Jeff) Mass of Zeeland, and Amy (David) Brillhart of Jenison. She is also survived by siblings, William (Cheryl) Green and Lucy (Mick) McGraw, as well as her her grandchildren Connor (Bethany) Bolthouse, Alex (Emily) Bolthouse, Alison (Kory) Young, Lanae Mass, Mallory and Rachel Brillhart, and great-grandson Elliot Bolthouse.
Donna graduated from Belding High School in 1960, where she was crowned Apple Queen in her senior year. She attended Western Michigan University and earned a BS degree in Special Education in 1964. In 1982, she obtained her Masters in Reading from Central Michigan University and later earned an endorsement to teach Pre-Primary Impaired children.
Donna lived in Big Rapids, Michigan, from 1967 to 2002, where she was a faithful member of Fellowship Christian Reformed Church. During those years, she was actively involved in many community activities and committees, generously giving her time and talents in service to others. She was an expert seamstress who delighted in a wide variety of crafts, and was known for her unforgettable pies! Donna taught in the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District for 20 years, retiring in 2002. During her tenure, she held 5 different positions, teaching children between the ages of 2-1/2 to 26. She had a deep love for teaching and had a special place in her heart for those with special needs.
After retiring, Donna moved to Holland to be near her three children and their families, a transition that brought her great joy and allowed her to remain closely connected to those she loved most, and had more time to be active in her church, community and social circles. She participated in Bible studies, small groups from church, and a grief ministry for widows. She served with the special needs Sunday School and enjoyed being a greeter at church.
Donna lived an active and adventurous life. She loved biking, canoeing, kayaking, tennis, cross-country and downhill skiing, as well as all yard games and board games. She had a strong competitive spirit, unmatched when it came to checkers and Chinese checkers. She especially enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting an impressive 20+ countries. She was a member of the Holland Area Newcomers, Monday Knitters, The Red Hat Society and the neighborhood Bunco group. She was a familiar face at Evergreen Commons, either volunteering, attending exercise classes or playing pickleball.
Donna was blessed to marry Dennis P. Kaleugher in 2019. Together, they shared a love for traveling, dancing, and biking. They embraced new adventures, and created cherished memories filled with joy, companionship, and laughter. In recent years, Donna appreciated her life with Dennis, time with family, her "Rock Steady Boxing" exercise classes, (with her signature pink gloves), and any opportunity to be around young children.
