Ruth Bolthouse Obituary
Ruth was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 19, 1941, to the late Henry Engels and Vivian (Wheat) Engels.
Ruth graduated from Union High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In August of 1959, Ruth married the love of her life Robert "Bob" Lee Bolthouse. The two went on to enjoy 66 years of marriage together.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Ruth enjoyed quilting so much, that she was a member of the Rumpled Quilts Kin Club in Interlochen, Michigan for about 15 years. Ruth also enjoyed travelling all over the United States by RV, with her husband Bob. Favorite destinations from their travels included Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, and Texas.
Beyond these things, Ruth had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and was willing to share her faith with whomever she was with.
Ruth was a hospitable, kind, loving, and generous soul. She will be forever missed.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her sister and brother- in- law Jane and Tom Hendershot, and her son-in-law Bryce Matson.
Ruth Lynne Bolthouse is survived by her husband Robert "Bob" Lee Bolthouse; daughters Terri Lynne Ferrara (Tom), Rebecca Ann "Becky" Matson and Sara Lee Quick (Rob); grandchildren Angela Ferrara (Nate Braudrick), Janie Hejl (John), Marissa Fedorow (Rob), Jill Corlett (Kyle), Zachary Matson (Ashley), Emily Stricklin(Brian), Anna Whitney(Chris), and Laura Hobbs (Justin); and great-grandchildren Aster Braudrick, Ava Hejl, Bailey Hejl, Wynn Corlett, Vivian Corlett, Emma Fedorow, Isabel Fedorow, Levi Matson, Opal Matson, Cora Stricklin, Eli Stricklin, Evelyn Whitney, Jackson Hobbs, Luke Hobbs, Megan Hobbs, and Abigail Hobbs.
A memorial visitation will be held at Delaware Grace Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2 pm – 3 pm. A memorial service will follow at Delaware Grace Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Women At Risk International by going to their website or a check can be sent to Women At Risk International 2790 44 th Street SW. Wyoming MI. 49519.

I am so sad to read of Ruth's passing. I am so grateful we talked face to face just a few weeks ago. We were infant neighbors together, elementary buddies and high school buddies. My memories of our families playing, laughing and being together will last forever. I so enjoyed going to catechism with her and then walking to her Grandma and Grandpa Engels house for dinner. The day after the tornado in Standale, we hung out with her Grandma Wheat. Ruth's family was mine and mine was hers. Thank you Jesus for taking her where she wanted to go.
