Donna Breitling Obituary

Donna Breitling

1933 ~ 2025

Murray, UT - Donna Mae Rose Breitling, age 92, returned to her Heavenly Father on November 11th, 2025 in the Murray IMC Hospital three days after having a stroke. She spent her final days visiting with most of her posterity, many of whom were able to interact with her as they reminisced about the good times they shared.

She was born to loving parents, Donald Earl Rose and Ida Mae Biesinger, on May 4, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she also grew up. She married Robert Lowell Breitling on August 5, 1950. They made their home in Murray, Utah and lived there for 45 years until they built their second home in Draper in 1995. She loved to serve people and made many life-long friends.

She supported Dad in his Breitling Brothers Construction business while working as a full-time homemaker and raising five children. Our achievements were always supported by her as she sought out the best teachers and influencers. She was our greatest mentor. She gave each of us opportunities to take responsibility and learn the value of honest work. She provided a love of music and encouraged us to participate in it, as well as sports and extra school activities. She made each holiday memorable, often with extended family.

She enjoyed the outdoors, especially snowmobiling and boating with family. Mom loved the mountains, especially a beautiful spot in Parleys Canyon which Mom and Dad purchased early in their marriage. Years later, our family built the mountain home she had dreamed of for 30 years. Our parents shared their Mount Aire home with extended family and many friends.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the restored gospel, which she regularly shared with family and friends. She served in various church callings, starting at age 15 as primary pianist. She had several teaching callings spanning over most Church auxiliaries including Relief Society, Young Women, Adult Gospel Doctrine class and several youth Sunday School and Primary classes. She loved making each lesson extra special with her creative handmade touches and clever visual aids even into her eighties.

She also had leadership callings at both the Ward and Stake levels, including Relief Society and Young Women presidencies.

Her community service was also extensive. She was PTA President in two elementary schools. She served as the PTA Program Chairperson of the Murray PTA District. She was a 4-H Club leader twice for her daughters and worked in the Cub Scout program.

For decades she enjoyed a Simada Study Group as well as her Book Club. She was a life-long member of the Daughters Of The Utah Pioneers and proudly attended their monthly meetings and contributed by sharing her pioneer heritage. These organizations enriched her life, and she cherished those friendships. She was well-read and had a phenomenal memory. Her pastime was writing poetry.

She enjoyed her 3 years as host for the LDS Church Office Building, located in Salt Lake City, assisting as a tour guide, and was later called to work for the Church Membership Division where she assisted in finding records of members who were not assigned to a ward.

As a Temple Ordinance Worker, she served 8 years in the Jordan River and Draper Temples. She also played the piano accompaniment in the Temple's weekly devotional meeting for the ordinance workers.

She moved to the Holladay Spring Gardens Senior Living Center in her 90th year. There she made many new friends. This magical place was such a joy to her. She was asked to teach a few Sunday School and Relief Society lessons. She also continued with her ministering, serving faithfully in her assignments as she had done throughout her life. She prayed she would always be useful. Her prayers were answered by serving in callings and doing temple work to the very end. We are grateful for the love and support of everyone at Spring Gardens.

She is survived by her children: Robert Michael (Dianne) Breitling, Rosanne Breitling (Klint J.) Day, Donald William (Ruth) Breitling, Barbara Breitling (Mark) Wilson, Steven Lowell Breitling, and dear friend Susan Adair, 14 grandchildren and their spouses, 70+ great and great-great grandchildren, and her sister, Evelyn Gibbons.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and eternal companion, Robert Lowell Breitling, her parents, Donald Earl and Ida Mae Biesinger Rose, her sibling and siblings-in-law: Wayne and Joy Rose, Gene Gibbons, and great-granddaughter, Carolyn Johnson.

Doug Stewart (Donna Mae's mom's sister, Rosina Beisinger Bouck's grandson)

November 19, 2025

When Donna Mae's cousin, LaJune (Bouck) Stewart became a young widow at 41 and moved with 4 boys aged 20, 19, 17 and 11 to Utah from New England, Bob and Donna Mae took us in like family. They invited us boating, to Bear Lake, Mt. Aire and many family holiday events. We felt the love of Donna Mae's kind embrace and felt almost adopted into their close-knit family even though we were in a strange city with no friends. The Breitling's Christ-like love will always be remembered and cherished. We are so happy she is reunited with her soul-mate, Bob. They were an adorable couple and most often their smiles could melt away any sadness. They both had that light in their eyes that comes from following the Savior and serving everyone within reach. Our love goes out to their family at this tender time of temporary separation. What an Elect Lady Donna Mae is.
