Donna L. Coufal, 79, of Hanover, KS, passed away on June 3, 2025, at the Hanover Hospital.
Visitation was held Monday, June 9, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service followed at 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic School Gym in Hanover.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, at St. John's Catholic School Gym. Father David Metz officiated. The organist was Janet Fritschi, and the vocalists were John Barba and Thomas Coufal. Hymns included "Ave Maria", "Amazing Grace", "Panis Angelicus", "The Lord's Prayer", and "On Eagle's Wings."
The pallbearers were Drew Obermeyer, Caleb Obermeyer, Cameron Knox, Jesse Perez, Marty Coufal, and Nick Brockman.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Donna was born on September 20, 1945, to Raymond and Esther (Stolte) Riggert in Odell, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanover.
After graduating from high school, Donna worked as a ward clerk at Hanover Hospital before relocating to Lawrence, KS. There, she worked as a restaurant cook but eventually returned to Hanover and resumed her career at the hospital.
On June 1, 1963, Donna married J.B. Coufal at St. John’s Catholic Church. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Margaret “Peg” and Jane.
Donna later attended Kansas State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She then began her career with Twin Valley Developmental Services.
For many years, Donna proudly served on the EMT crew in Hanover.
Preceding her in death is her husband, J.B. in 2021; parents; brother, Orville Riggert; sisters, Leola Riggert, and Bernita Mayfield; sister-in-law, LeAnn (Jack) Barba; and brother-in-law, Jerry Coufal.
Survivors include daughters, Peg (Kurt) Obermeyer, Marysville, and Jane (Hank) Brockman, Home, KS; grandchildren, Drew Obermeyer, Christa (Cameron) Knox, Caleb Obermeyer, Vicki (Eusevio) Cardenas, Shelby (Jesse) Perez, and Nick (Charlene) Brockman; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary, c/o Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
