Donna Gilbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cook Brothers Funeral Directors and Cremations - Fairburn on Nov. 16, 2023.
Donna Astin Gilbert, daughter of the late Willie Paul and Mamie Astin, was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 8, 1968.
Donna was a 1986 graduate of College Park High School in College Park, GA. Though she had no biological children, she always showed special love to all those around her. Her love for kids called her to work in the capacity of a teacher and later as a school bus assistant. She loved to cook and was known for making all the family's favorites at the holidays, like mac-n-cheese, dressing, and banana pudding.
Donna joined the Miller Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Johnny Crafter, where she was a faithful member for many years. Donna was the team mom for the Mamie Robinson Praise Dance Ministry, named in memory of her late mother. She encouraged the girls to always give their best and to let the Lord use them to minister through dance.
Donna had a heart of gold, stood on her faith in God, and always went above and beyond to give to those in need. Donna enjoyed cooking, visiting casinos, traveling, and spending holidays with her family.
Donna departed this life at 55 on November 9, 2023, in Fayetteville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and special nephew, Marice Astin.
Donna leaves to cherish her life memories: her sisters, Ellen Astin Watkins and Lisa Astin Robinson; her nieces, Jessica Robinson-Godfrey, Kayla Gibby, and Destiny Watkins; her nephew, Rokevious Watkins; her great-nieces, Rheagan Godfrey, Hallie Astin, India Goodwin, Rylee Watkins, Taylor Godfrey, Kyleigh Godfrey, and Rahj Watkins; her great-nephew, Jeremiah Astin; a special friend, Ronke Lawal; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, church family, and friends.
