Donna Handlin

Donna Marie Handlin, 80, passed away peacefully in her Floral Park home on Monday, March 16, 2026. Donna was born on January 26,1946 to Fred and Josephine Wengert. She grew up with one sister, Marybeth, who became her best friend.

Donna was married for over 50 years to her true love James Handlin (deceased). Together they raised three children, Christine (Bob), Joseph, and Dena (Steve). Donna worked for State Farm Insurance, The NY Lottery and The Roslyn National Airforce Base, but her true passion was her family. She was a very kind, loving and dedicated mother. Donna loved to cook and host holiday celebrations; she loved a house full of noise and laughter.

Donna was a strong, caring and kind soul. She lived her Christian values. She never hesitated to open her home to family and others who were struggling or had nowhere else to go. She graciously cared for those who were ill and she dedicated twelve years of service as a Eucharistic minister.

Donna's most cherished "job" was as Nanny to her 6 grandchildren, Gillian (Jake), Ava (Rich), Alex, Sasha, Gwen and Rachael. She loved her grandchildren fiercely and was very involved in their lives. She enjoyed having sleepovers, playing games, going to the beach, or any activity she could enjoy with her grandchildren. A good day for Donna was a day that revolved around these kids and creating precious moments, regardless of the noise or mess. Nanny loved to spoil the grandkids… and she would have loved to spoil her soon to be born great grandchild.

Donna left a legacy of love that shaped the lives of all who knew her and we will carry that love with us through many generations.
