WEST STEWARTSTOWN – Donna Jean Inkel, 67, of W. Stewartstown, died on Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, and after a seven-year battle with cancer.
She was born in Brockton, Mass., on April 16, 1956, a daughter to the late Daniel T. and Carolyn (Hall) Barrett. She was raised in Brockton and was a 1974 graduate of Brockton High School.
After school, Donna worked in customer service for Analog Devices in Norwood, Mass. She soon met her future husband who was visiting in the area, and they lived there for 15 years before moving their young family to the north country in 1989. Donna was a stay-at-home mom for a time, but later worked as the luncheon cashier at Canaan Memorial High School, and as a postal clerk for many years in both West Stewartstown and Canaan. She also did all the bookkeeping for her husband's automotive body shop business.
Donna was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride her custom-made Harley-Davidson Sportster. She loved to go shopping and was an animal lover, always having pets in the home, but a true lover of all creatures. Her laughter was unforgettable and contagious and could be heard from across a large crowd or in a large store. But her greatest joy was spending time and doting on her cherished grandchildren
Donna leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Peter Inkel of W. Stewartstown; her children, Danielle (Sean) Dooley of Deerfield, N.H., Carmen (Alex) Crawshaw of Carrollton, Va., and Paul (Samantha) Inkel of Canaan, Vt.; a brother, Michael Barrett of Florida; eight grandchildren, Wyatt, Brezlyn, Kellan, Emmett, Ryan, Madden, Piper and Hadley; as well as her beloved in-laws and many friends.
She is predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Joclyn.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the next morning, Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert's Catholic Church in W. Stewartstown. Burial will follow later in the spring of 2024 in St. Brendan's Cemetery, of which notice will be given.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Inkel may be made to the Two Rivers Ride for Cancer, P.O. Box 376, Colebrook, NH 03576.
