Donna S. Jackman, 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Friday, February 18, 2022, in Centreville, VA.
Born Thursday, May 9, 1935 in Everett, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert E. Smith and the late Emma (Leighty) Smith.
Donna was a graduate from Swissvale High School, Swissvale, PA and was a proud alumni of Penn State University and until her passing she continued to "Bleed Blue". She was an avid Penn State football fan and would be found watching or listening to their games every Saturday they played. After college, Donna went on to become a teacher and then a realtor.
Donna was a very active and dedicated member of the Lions Club, International. She and her husband, Lowell, started the first Leo Club for youth in Hagerstown. She served many years as the Chair and Multi-District Chair for Diabetes Awareness and Education and enjoyed reaching out and doing presentations to other Lions Clubs and community groups. She started the first women's Lions Club in Beaver Creek where she served as charter president and later secretary. Donna then joined the West Hagerstown Lions Club, serving as president and then secretary. She finished her years of service in the Chewsville Lions Club. Donna organized many functions including the Kiss the Pig Contest, where she served as the Lions member, lucky enough to actually kiss the pig. She gave too many hours to mention working for the Lions at Mack Truck Rodeo, acting as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president, wherever she could serve and support Lions around the state. She was particularly dedicated to Camp Merrick, which is a camp for children with diabetes due to the challenges she observed with her daughter, Sherilyn Jackman. She has held many positions within the various clubs and has served her community devotedly through Lions and her church. She attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Smithsburg, MD.
She is survived by her two sons, Dennis Jackman of Martinsburg, WV and Dale Jackman (Paola) of Chantilly, VA; daughter, Amy Boughter (Theron) of Lititz, PA; 7 grandchildren, Rachel, William, Edward, Andrew, Matthew, Noah and Sammy; and 3 great grandchildren.
