Donna G. Matteson, 94
Donna G. Matteson, 94 of Ashland passed from this life on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2025 in Wasen Rehabilitation Center at Brethren Care Village.
She was born on August 31, 1931 in Kent, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (nee Hostler) Habraken.
Donna graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School, Class of 1949. She relocated to Ashland in 1973 and would call Ashland home for the next 52 years.
She retired after many years from Ashland University in 2003 where she served as an administrative assistant of Special Programs; and was previously employed at Production Farm Credit as a secretary.
Donna was a devout member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church where she was previously active in Catholic Daughters, bereavement committee, hunger center, helped with the fish fries, and was previously active in church activities. Donna loved to cook all her life, she catered so many weddings and events over the years. She enjoyed watching the Cleveland Guardians.
She is survived by her loving son, Kip (Beth) Matteson of Ashland; two grandchildren, Katie (Chris) Bacon of Perrysburg and Marc (Audrey) Matteson of Westerville; one great grandchildren, Reid Bacon of Perrysburg; one brother, Jerry Habraken of Sevierville, Tennessee; three sisters-in-law, Pat Habraken of Vero Beach Florida, Carole Habraken of Warren, and Pat Habraken of Kent; and leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were very important in her life.
In addition to her parents, Donna is preceded in death by her six siblings, Rita Habraken, Mary Catherine (Wayne) Taylor, and Robert "Pete", Bill, and Richard Habraken.
A Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 am in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father James Winings presiding with a meal and time of fellowship following in the parish activity center. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio with Father Rod Kreidler presiding.
The family would like to thank the many family and friends who visited her this last month and for the wonderful care that Dr. Dina Keeler, Dr. Pierre El Hachem and nurse Leona Mayhugh provided. The entire staff of Wasen Rehabilitation was wonderful during her final weeks and provided the utmost respect and care for Donna. Seth at the funeral home has been an amazing friend to Donna during her life and assisted Kip through this journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to Wasen Rehabilitation at Brethren Care Village, 2000 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
