Donna Rouse Moody, age 80 of La Grange, passed away at Spring Arbor of Wilson on March 23. Born November 25, 1944 in Lenoir County, she was the daughter of the late Durwood Alton Rouse and Mary Elizabeth King Rouse. In addition to her parents, her husband of nearly 63 years, Ed Moody preceded her in death just five weeks prior. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Kennedy. Donna graduated from Moss Hill High School in Lenoir County and worked at Caswell Center in Kinston for several years. She was an excellent cook, and her family enjoyed spending each holiday in "Donna's Kitchen".
She had a great love for her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who did not pass up an opportunity to spend the weekend with their grandparents. She most recently enjoyed meeting her new "great grandchildren" who were so thankful to get to meet their great grandparents in their final days.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie Moody (Lynne) of Gallatin, Tennessee and Doug Moody (Heather) of Wilson, North Carolina. Grandchildren, Mackenzie Moody Smith (Caleb) of Morehead City, North Carolina, Mitchell Moody (Bethany) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Parker Moody (Breanna) of Spring Hope, North Carolina; as well as great grandchildren, Jameson Smith and Harrison Moody. Donna is also survived by her brother Alton Rouse (Gwen), sister Brenda Ball, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 2:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston, with burial to follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 29, prior to the service.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Spring Arbor in Wilson and Mrs. Rickietta Buckner of Amedisys Hospice Care of Greenville for the excellent care they provided to Donna as well as Ed during their final days.
She was a faithful, longtime member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, 1936 Banks School Road, Kinston, NC 28504, or the National Association of Free Will Baptists Executive Office, PO Box 5002, Antioch, TN 37011.
