Donna Murray (1963-2026)

Donna Gainey Murray died on January 24, 2026 holding the hands of her family.

Born in Raleigh to James Gainey and Leona Walker, she was a city girl who fell in love with the country. Growing up she liked fast cars and breaking the rules. She lived for herself and her joy-and it showed. Later, she had five children and seven grandchildren, and she started living for them, especially when life was hard.

Donna was easy to love; a mama to more than just her own children, she always had a full house and never did learn to cook for less than a small army. She gave her love to others as easily as she breathed, and she always had more to give, even when it made her life harder. She was funny, kind, gentle, and silly, but she loved fiercely.

Donna will be buried next to her dad, James Gainey, whom she'd missed dearly for so long. She's survived by her mom, five children, seven grandchildren, spouse, and all the children she helped raise along the way.

She was too kind for this world, and it will be much colder without her light.

Her service will be held on Tuesday, February 3 rd, at 11:00 am at Zebulon Town Cemetery.
