After graduation she worked at the bank in Spirit Lake and attended Estherville Community College, now Iowa Lakes Community College, and graduated in 1961.

She met her husband to be, Lyman Olsen, at college and they were married on October 24, 1963, and moved to Iowa Falls, where Lyman joined the Chicago Rock Island Railroad and Donna started working at the Iowa Falls State Bank and stayed there for 38 years.

Donna was active in various local organizations including the Iowa Falls Chamber Mainstreet, treasurer of the Iowa Falls Cadet booster club, and she taught Sunday school at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In addition to being busy with her career and volunteering Donna enjoyed long walks for exercise, plants and flowers, and enjoying wine with her dear friend Colleen Maguire.
