Donna Marie Burkholder Shetter passed away on May 26, 2024, at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was born in Mechanicsburg, PA, on June 24, 1946, to Mary Helen (Ehrhart) and Raymond Burkholder.
When Donna was 5 years old, the family moved to the farm near Waynesboro, PA, where her parents and grandparents (Aaron and Emma Burkholder) farmed together. She became the big sister to Connie and Cathy and spent many hours assisting with gardening and farm work.
Donna attended the former Quincy School District until her senior year of high school when Quincy was merged with the Waynesboro Area School District. She graduated from
Waynesboro Area High School in 1964 and then completed studies in Hagerstown, MD to be a medical secretary. She worked for one year at York Hospital and then became a medical transcriptionist in the Radiology Department of the Chambersburg Hospital where she worked for more than 40 years. She retired in 2011. She was briefly married to Paul Small. In 1990 she married Huber Shetter. Donna lived in Chambersburg most of her adult life and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church until her health rendered her unable to participate. She had served on the Worship and Music Commission, as secretary of the Church Council and joyfully sang in the church choir. She also sang in the Chambersburg and Mercersburg Community Choruses for a number of years. She was a loving aunt to nephew Samuel Peregoy and whole-heartedly claimed the Shetter family as her own after marrying Huber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband Huber, and stepson Barry Shetter. She leaves behind her two sisters - Connie Burkholder of McPherson, KS; Cathy Peregoy and husband Richard of Hampstead, MD; nephew Samuel Peregoy and wife Amy of New Oxford, PA; Stepson Jeff Shetter and wife Laurie of Chambersburg; Stepdaughter Kimm Ebersole and husband Tom of Wyomissing; Step granddaughter Elizabeth Shetter of Chambersburg; step granddaughter Ann Deardorff and husband Brian of Fayetteville; and step great grandchildren Andrew Shetter, Anastasia, Zachary, and Juliet Deardorff and Cole and Ross Ebersole.
The family is deeply grateful to Trinity Lutheran Church visitors, Meals On Wheels, dear friend Bob Beachley and other persons who aided Donna in remaining in her home for so long.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, on Saturday, June 1 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ruth Smith presiding. Visitation with family will be 10:00 am. Memorials may be made to Heifer International and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
