Obituary For Jim Shetter
On September 7, 2024, Jimmy Shetter, a lifelong resident of Palomas Creek, passed away just days before his 80th birthday. Born in Hatch, NM on September 12, 1944, to David Jackson "DJ" Shetter and Mildred Novelle Estes Shetter. Jimmy dedicated his life to farming and family. He married Sharon, the love of his life, in 1963 and started his career working at BNSF Railroad. While balancing his work at the railroad and his farming responsibilities, their first son, Richard, was born in 1964. While his family and career were growing, he also served in the National Guard for four years. Their daughter, Tina, was born in 1967 and his love for farming continued when they purchased the farm in 1969. Throughout his life, Jimmy balanced his duties between the railroad and farming to provide for his family. Their second son, Michael, arrived in 1975, and Jimmy took pride in teaching his children about the farming lifestyle. After 39 years of dedicated service, he retired from BNSF Railroad in 2004 but continued to pursue his passion for farming in his retirement years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, DJ Shetter and Novelle Estes Shetter; and his brother, Jackie Shetter. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon Shetter; and two sons – Richard and Michael Shetter; and daughter, Tina Shetter. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie (Claudia) Shetter; sister, Ruthie (Earl) Clark; 7 grandchildren – Samantha (David) Mankins, Shelly (Fernando) Batres; Jeremiah Easley, Garrett Scott, Blayne Easley, Kaden Shetter, and Maci Shetter; and 5 great-grandchildren – Kyle, Fernando, Shawn, Miranda, and Margarita.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Las Palomas Cemetery for friends and family to attend on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. Following the service, the family would like to welcome you to eat lunch at the park in Williamsburg, right off the freeway. Send flowers to the service of Jim Shetter
