Michael Rogers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home - Lewisville on Mar. 4, 2026.
Michael Avary Rogers passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February 23, 2026. Mike was born on May 19,1944 in Wichita Falls, Texas. 10 minutes later his brother Sam arrived. Their sister Linda Sue, who was 18 months older, was expecting a sister. Instead, to her disappointment, she got identical twin brothers.

When the boys were two years old, the family moved west to be on his grandfather's ranch near Grenville, NM. A love for ranching and cowboying was born. His grandfather and father ran the ranch together until drought and falling cattle prices forced Mike's dad to find other work. The family spent time in the north-central NM region in towns Los Cerrillos, Vaughn, and Taos before settling in Moriarty, where Mike and his siblings graduated high school.

He spent a year at New Mexico State in Las Cruces and then moved to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales for three years before he decided it was time for a change. He made his way to Las Vegas, NV and dealt cards at the Golden Nugget Casino. But ranch life was more his style, so he and a friend traveled to Meeteetse, WY where he got a job breaking and training horses.

By chance he met the love of his life, Linda, who was attracted to his dancing skills. They had a whirlwind courtship and married September 14,1968. The couple moved back to Portales where he could finish his degree in Agribusiness. He worked in cattle processing and sales in Arizona, but he and Linda decided desert living was not for them, so they went back to her home in Montana where he continued in sales and worked on the Binion and Smith ranches. Their son Reese was born September 17,1976 and they settled in Cody, WY. After 7 years Mike longed for New Mexico, so they moved to Truth or Consequences where his best friend from childhood lived. Mike traveled and sold animal health supplies across NM and AZ. After a couple of years, they had an opportunity to partner into and eventually own Sierra Feed and Western Wear store. The Rogers built community here and owned the business for 20 years.

Retirement brought a move back to Miles City, MT to help Linda's mother, Thelma Isaac until her death in 2007. Mike and Linda then moved to Sanger, TX to be near Reese and his family. After 3 years he longed to be in NM so back to the place he felt most at home, living in Raton, NM for 12 years. His health dictated that they be near the family in Texas, so they made one final move in 2023 to Lewisville where he was living at the time of his death.

Through the years some of the organizations he was involved in included the Sierra County Fair board, NM Cattle Growers Assoc., supporter of FFA and 4-H, 10 years on the T. or C. local school board, Cowboys for Christ, Christian Businessmen's Assoc., and church board member for many years, always supporting the pastor. He left this life with the assurance of his heavenly home and eternity with his savior Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister Linda Sue, brother Sam, his wife's parents, and brother-in-law Charles Wilson. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Reese (Jamie), grandchildren Gavin (18), Chloe (15), Graham (13) & Collin (10) as well as sister-in-law Sandy Wilson, nephews Jeremy Rutherford, Mike Wilson, nieces Kim Cohn and Jen Crawford as well as many friends.

A celebration of life will take place March 28, 2026 at Double Tree Ranch Park in Highland Village, TX from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
