Donna Lea Tekavec

Donna Lea Tekavec, 73, of Rices Landing, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025. She was born September 14, 1951, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Genevieve Sharpnack Tekavec. She was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School, where she was honored as the 1969 May Queen. Donna received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Slippery Rock University and received a Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University. She taught special needs students in the Fayette and Greene County area school districts, the former Youth Development Center in Waynesburg, and lastly for the Jefferson-Morgan School District. She retired after over 33 years of service. Donna made a great impact on the children she taught and was known for her intelligent mind, caring heart and philanthropy. She was also passionate in helping animals in her community, enjoyed riding her bicycle and traveling internationally. Her kindness will leave a legacy as we honor her life and mourn her death. Surviving are cousins, Susan Szoyka Samek (John) of Carmichaels, Megan and David Lydic of Uniontown, Ryan and Kelsey Samek of Carmichaels, Garrett and Annah Samek of Carmichaels, and Trenton, Colton and Alley; two brothers, Barry Tekavec (Janice) of Jefferson, and Richard Tekavec (Loretta) of Rices Landing. The family extends a special thanks to her caregiver, Kathy Whitehair (aka "Hay"), of Rices Landing, and to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care that was provided. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, and from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. hour of service Tuesday, April 22, in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels. The Rev. Cricket Hall will officiate. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Greene County, Waynesburg; or to Catnip Acres, Waynesburg.
